Two embroidered hands on sewn together dishcloths

In my last newsletter, I talked about trying to make something happen vs. getting into the flow. But each of those paths supposes you have started something. What about when you are stuck and don't know where to start? This happens to me all the time and I have found a few ways to get things moving.

I always have several projects in the works. Some are slow-burn epic works that take a lot of time. When I get stuck with one, I work on another for a while. Others are quick sketchbook experiments or drawings on small pieces of paper meant for a collage. I make so many of those that having a few "duds" doesn't really matter. I just keep going. When I get stuck on one of these projects or stuck in my head, I can always pick up spinning and make some yarn, or grab my sketchbook and draw some scribbles. Once I get moving, it doesn't take long to get into the flow.

Writing this email to you started out that way, too. I got stuck in my head thinking of what I should write about. It took putting pen to paper, jotting down my first thought, to get this written and into a newsletter for you.

So when you are feeling stuck, just make a mark or two or get yourself moving in some other way. I think you'll find that doing is always more fruitful than staying inside your head.

What I'm Working On

small pieces of watercolor paper with pink and chartreuse paint underneath gold drawings

I am working on a collage (I'm not sure what to call these things. Collage? Array? Grid? Tiles?) commission. I love working on these because I let loose with color and play with watercolor and draw doodles. It's free and fun and the end result is contained joy, at least that's how I see them. Want one for yourself? I am open for commissions. Let's chat about what you have in mind.
