How do we frame it? How do we give context? I have a habit of thinking directions in my head when I am a passenger and the driver doesn't know where we are going. "Uh, should I be turning at some point?" Or some similar question will jolt me back to consciousness. "Oh, yeah. Can't you hear what's in my mind?"

How does a frame enliven a piece of art? Borders on quilts. Matt boards. Making a space between the art and the world that surrounds it. I'm not always in favor of a frame. Sometimes edges are more interesting, more lively. A place of tension but a tension that creates energy not stress. Energetic inquiry. What's that? What's beyond that? Where does it stop? Does it keep going? A frame is not a border.

It's like the binding on a quilt and not all quilts have bindings. Bindings hide the raw edges of fabric and hold everything together.
